This is My Brave shows are live theater shows where real people tell real stories about their real life mental health issues. Billed as #StorytellingSavesLives, This is My Brave seeks to remove the stigma of mental illness, open a dialogue, and create opportunities for people to thoughtfully engage around the topic of mental
health through this showcase.
Since its first show in 2014 in Arlington, Virginia, This Is My Brave – The Show
has featured nearly 500 people sharing their stories in 35 shows across the
United States and in Australia. On April 8th, 2018, South Florida will hold its
first This Is My Brave show at the Sunrise Civic Center Theater, Sunrise, Florida.
Currently, we are looking for story submissions from local people who struggle with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, suicide attempts, anorexia or bulimia, schizophrenia, or PTSD, as well as others. Their stories can be told via comedy, essay, original poetry, or original song. Caregivers are also encouraged to tell their side of the story. Mental health knows no bounds of age and neither does this event. All ages are welcome to express their stories.
Auditions will be held on January 13th and January 28th from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Young at Art Museum Library multi-purpose room in Davie, Florida. Performers must sign up in advance by visiting http://thisismybrave.org/auditions to pick an audition slot.
